Now more than ever, men and women who undergo hair transplantation are able to achieve natural-looking, permanent results that enhance and rejuvenate their overall appearance and improve their self-confidence. What Is Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)?

Follicular unit extraction, or FUE, involves the meticulous harvesting of grafts from the donor area and subsequent transplantation into the treatment area. Unlike follicular unit transplantation, FUE does not require the excision of a strip of scalp from the donor site. Using the FUE method allows surgeons to harvest hair from nearly anywhere on the body, including the chest, the beard region, and the back of the scalp.

It should be noted that FUE is somewhat more expensive than follicular unit transplantation as it requires more work overall. However, for the right candidates, it can provide an outstanding solution to thinning hair and areas of balding.

Candidacy for FUE

The best candidates are those that wish to wear their hair short at the back of the head as scarring from the FUE procedure is minimal (as opposed to follicular unit transplantation, which requires hair of moderate length to conceal scarring). In addition, FUE is best suited to patients who require treatment smaller in scope, as typically only 1,000 grafts or less are harvested using this method.
