Modern surgical hair restoration techniques allow for superior results that look far more natural and are far more durable than were possible through past techniques. At our Boston hair loss treatment center, New England Center for Hair Restoration, we use the latest technology and most effective techniques to restore natural, healthy hair to thinning areas. Our patients consistently emerge from treatment with fuller, thicker heads of hair and increased confidence and self-esteem.

There are two basic methods for surgically restoring hair: follicular unit transplant (FUT) and follicular unit extraction (FUE). Both methods produce excellent results, but may not be equally suited to all patients. Depending on the needs and goals of the individual patient, our hair surgeons may recommend one technique over the other. Our patients can rest assured, however, that they will achieve the best possible results by entrusting their scalps to our experienced, talented hair restoration experts.

At our hair restoration clinic in Boston, FUT vs. FUE will be discussed in clear detail during your initial consultation with one of our hair loss treatment professionals. Your hair and scalp will be thoroughly evaluated, and your goals for treatment, as well as any questions and concerns you might have, will be addressed carefully. All you have to do is schedule your appointment at our Boston hair loss treatment center today.

Hair Transplantation Methods Compared

At our hair loss treatment clinic in Boston, hair transplantation is performed as an outpatient procedure in our state-of-the-art surgical center. Whether FUT or FUE is more suitable to your specific case depends on your needs and goals.

FUT – follicular unit transplantation – is the more time tested of the two methods. Using this method, a strip of scalp is cut from the back of the head, where the hair follicles tend to be resistant to the genetic markers for hair loss. The individual hair follicle units are carefully isolated and transplanted to the desired areas at the top of the head. The long-term survival rate of follicles transplanted using the FUT method is generally between 98 and 100 percent.

The FUE – follicular unit extraction – method involves the removal of the follicular units from the donor area without the need for the removal of a strip of scalp. A precision extraction device is used to excise one follicular unit graft at a time, with the small circular incisions being 1 millimeter or less in size, making scarring minimal.

The FUT procedure is more efficient and cost-effective than the FUE procedure; however, the FUE procedure is potentially ideal for those who want to wear their hair short or shave their heads without visible scarring. Both procedures are highly safe, though patients who undergo FUT will experience more discomfort during the healing phase than those who undergo FUE.

Both procedures produce excellent results for the right candidates.
